November 2008
Hello sweet readers!
Whew! It’s finally over and time to get back to normal, or as close to normal as we can get, right? I mean the election. We can all sit back and breathe a sigh of relief at the fact that the political ads are all gone from TV. We can watch our favorite show or movie without seeing ads every 10 minutes. We’ll have no more tons of junk mail filling our mailboxes or our inboxes from candidates of both sides. We’ll receive no more phone calls endorsing one candidate or the other, or reminding us to get out and vote.
It doesn’t matter how you voted, or for whom you voted. We can now focus on the future and on making America great again. Whether you like the new president or not is not the question. The question is, will you get behind him and our leaders, and support their decisions, and be proud of our attempts? We all know we want the same things: an end to the war, a rise in the economy, lower taxes, higher benefits, lower gas prices, cleaner air to breathe, and independence from foreign oil. These things are all possible and within our grasp if we work in unity, together as a team. The time for party lines is over and we need to be unified in our goals.
Interestingly, I keep saying the same things about the gay community. I say how it needs to be united and how differences must be put aside in order to achieve the goal of recognition and support from the rest of the world. Too often I think too much is stressed about the differences between each group and not on what makes us all the same. We are all humans who live and breathe and love. The only difference is in whom we chose to love.
There I go, getting off the subject. It no longer matters if you were a McCain supporter or if you wanted Hilary or Obama. We have elected Obama as our President and all sorts of barriers have been breeched. Here we go to the future and a new face for America. We have elected a virtual unknown, whom we’d not heard of four years ago. We don’t know how he will do when faced with a crisis, or how he will react. We put our trust in the face of change, and now we have to get behind him and support him and do our very best to erase party lines.
We are no longer Republicans or Democrats, we are Americans and that means a great deal. People from all over the world look at us and want the dream we have. They want to come here and be a part of this great nation, and here we who are already here are finding all we can to complain. Times are hard and money is short, and tempers have flared about this past year, but we have so many things happening that outsiders look at and say, “I want to be an American!”
I think it’s time that we take labels off everybody and just say we are Americans. This election should be an opening door and we should jump through it, slam it behind us and say we are no longer going to label ourselves as different colors and races and religions and sexual orientations. We are going to say, “I am an American,” and are proud of that and are done with it. I’m sure someone has already asked President-Elect Obama that inane question, “How does it feel to be the first BLACK president of the United States?” Is that the most important thing right now? It should be about his plans for our future and how he feels about the ongoing war and the crisis in the stock market. It’s not about what he feels about being the first black president, or should I say, the first president of mixed race? It’s sad that the first big hoorah of this election was all the hype about his race.
It wouldn’t matter to me if he was green with bright pink and purple spots, as long as he did a good job and kept his promises, and didn’t forget that we are still a great nation of hard-working people who don’t make a million dollars a year. We are sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, men and women, all equal. We are working toward the same goals and dreams for this chunk of land we call home, and we have a chance now to rebuild and move forward. There is no more looking back and crying about the past. Turn around and look ahead and walk proud. You are an American!!! You are wonderful, and special, and strong!
Until next week, dear ones, love and many hugs,
Leeza
We were kept entertained between the three parts of the pageant by some great performances. From her Royal Dirtiness herself Miss Bodaxia LaCroix, to Miss October LaCroix doing “Womanizer”, a lovely performance by Lady Sapphire doing “I Am Telling You”, to the truly talented Ashley (the Fly) LaCroix singing “Good Morning Baltimore”. I almost thought I was seeing Tracey Turnblad in person. Then there was the hilariously funny Miss Boom Boom LaRue who tried not once but twice to brain me with one of her shoes, I didn’t know which way to duck. Hey Terry, do I get hazard pay? I will admit I was disappointed with the dancer that performed, he came out dressed in 2 outfits, one over the other and only took off the outer one, finishing his performance in blue jeans and a t-shirt. I think he at least should have finished in shorts and no shirt, and I didn’t find him very entertaining overall, with the exception of a couple of flips he didn’t really do much. I know of a couple of other guys who were there that would have done a better job,but that’s just my opinion.
The three contestants were pretty evenly matched. Jesse James was handsome in black formal wear and entertaining in his performance. Stefan Kash was well spoken on the question and sang a very romantic song for his performance. Sonny Martin was very talented and made me think of a young Justin Timberlake. It was a very tough decision on scoring as they were all pretty equally talented and I wanted to give them all the title. Wish there had been three crowns instead of only one. I’m sure any one of the three would do a fantastic job of representing WvasQueerNews as our Drag King for the next year. Congratulations Sonny, have a great reign, I’m sure you’ll make us proud.

I tried really hard to get up to dance in the cage cause I thought it would give everybody a scream, but I couldn’t get my fat bottom up there. That would have been a great YouTube video. *laughing Next time, Bodaxia, I want a step stool!
I’m sure we will be a topic on the Fruit and Fly Show this week, I don’t care what they say about me as long as the spell my name right. *giggles And Bryce is going to blackmail all of us with pics and videos…..eeeeeek! But it was a wonderful evening and worth it. If you have never had the opportunity to visit Club LaCage, it is well worth your time to go there. It is beautifully decorated and the entertainment is awesome. Bodaxia has put together a wonderfully ecclectic group of performers. While you are in Wheeling and that close, jump over to the O-Zone and see Miss Carol and the gang and enjoy a drink.
